The Fifth Element Fashion Show + Fifth Element Notes

The basic idea behind our fashion show concept is the future of fashion if we continue on the current trends of overconsumption and overproduction that we are on now. It is no secret that the fashion industry is oversaturated with clothing. Fast fashion brands are a fairly new phenomena that churn out clothes cheaper and faster than ever before. Essentially, we are creating more that can be consumed. Aside from the ethical issues of sweatshops, there are major environmental issues with fast fashion. This results in an immense amount of this clothing being trashed in a very small amount of time, and with the inclusion of synthetic fibers in clothing, it takes an extremely long time to break down.

For my portion of the project, I represented our probably future if we continue down this path of overproduction. The key idea of my outfit was keeping with trends fashion while having to incorporate trash and reused materials into our fashion. I kept in line with Sam's green makeup, but made it more subtle and gentler.  My outfit is entirely thrifted or created by me. The dress I got at a garage sale years ago and I got the shoes at a thrift shop this last summer. The corset was the key piece of my outfit, created by me. I made it with hot glue, cardboard, and a shoe string! I chose to make a corset as they are currently a very trendy item in fashion, and I thought it would make a strong statement about trends and consumption.

A little bit about me!
